Well, it’s a slow process and it’s only day 2, but I do feel things are moving along.
Did my workout DVD for the second day in a row. I’m sore, but it was a bit easier today. During today’s workout, I was taking a break and contemplating the next batch of brutal leg lifts when a voice said, “You can do this. This is really difficult and you may want to give up, but you can do this. Just keep going.” I hear that phrase a lot during Bikram as well, and what I love about it is that when I push through and finish something challenging I realize that I have more potential than I gave myself credit for. It’s also a great stress reliever, something vital for living in New York City.
So, tonight I had dinner with my friend Krista at Aita in Fort Greene. I not only spent more than I should have, but I had the oxtail ravioli (bone marrow sauce, brown butter, and sage). It was delicious…a kiss in every bite, but it was also incredibly rich. Oh, well. One of my favorite things to do in this city is go to a new restaurant, eat delicious food, and have great conversation with a good friend. Tonight was all of that and the conversation was funny and encouraging and much needed. I tend to regard going out to a nice restaurant as a treat, so I hardly ever get something inexpensive and low-cal. Now’s as good a time as any to find balance, or at least to save the butter-soaked oxtail carb pockets for the weekend as originally planned.
Today was not that productive. I didn’t make time during the day to write and the evening was filled with other work. Writing may have to be a first thing in the morning thing.
