Please, Mrs. West / by Shaun Fauntleroy

Monday, January 30 I'll be performing in Sophia Heinecke's new play, Please, Mrs. West, directed by one of my favorite artists, Madeline Barasch. When I first read this play it blew me away — it's timely, unexpectedly compassionate, and insightful.

About Please Mrs. West:
The year is 2019. Kanye has been assassinated on the campaign trail approaching the date for the presidential election, for which he is a nominee.

Kim is sitting down for an interview — something that for once is not controlled by her mother, or, she hopes, centering around her own pop culture identity. The interview quickly devolves into a conversation between two strong and notable women contending with issues of motherhood, public life in the age of new and social media, and female celebrity.

EBP on Monthly Pussy Play Reading Group:
The group is an inclusive community that was founded in Summer 2014 by a few EBP members before EBP was conceived. That said, the group is not exclusive to EBP artists. We welcome listeners and participators who represent the diversity of Brooklyn and beyond as it relates to race, ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation, and socio-economic class. We celebrate women-identifying writers and choose to read their work, and we support a platform for women-identifying actors, artists, and appreciators to be the readers of the material.
